Chaos;Head Review

Fire | 19 May 2009

Note – First time writing a review so this will probally be epic shit but whatever.

Chaos;Head

Synopsis

The original game’s premise revolves around a high school student, Takumi Nishijō, who unknowingly walks into the scene of a gruesome murder on his way home. More mysterious events starts happening afterwards as more gruesome murders occurs in the area. Takumi struggles to cope with reality and the delusions he experiences as he tries to avoid being getting caught by the perpetrator behind the chain of murders.

Graphics  2/5

While the graphics aren’t the worst, they aren’t that great either especially when comparing to the source material. Though there are issues with QC’ing present especially with the 1st episode which should have been one of the best quality episodes.

Having quality problems with the 1st episode generally leads to quality problems later down the track. Also it would have been nice to animate secondary characters. Though I do enjoy having the sexy lead female being about the size of a gnome or a loli.

With Rimi walking into the scene it doesnt really look good that everybody including the main character is still. Shows that the producers have been a bit lazy. Also note the guy on the right’s bad haircut.

Although with a high amount of descriptive gore and apparently having a rating of 17+ there really isnt a high amount of gore. The graphics stay consistent throughout the series although they drop off a bit in quality towards the end. There really isnt anything great about this, it really does look like your generic anime.

Audio 2.5/5

The voice-acting in Chaos;Head is decent at best. Many of the characters get annoying after a while especially the lead, which causes a major problem in the ability to continue the show. By episode 3 most people would be sick of Takumi’s whiny voice and all his wussing out. The female leads don’t really bring about much of an impact upon the show either.

The OP & ED are extremely generic. The VN’s OP just makes me wonder why they didnt use it instead.

The ED is wierd japanglish which makes absolutely no sense but is kind of your generic pop song. Nothing great and doesnt really fit in with the show.

The insert songs are however great but they don’t stop the Audio being mediocre at best.

Story 3/5

The story isn’t too bad going by the source material it could’ve scored a 4 however the execution on this show is terrible. The pacing is bad and the whining of the lead really ruins many suspenseful situations. It’s trying to be a thriller but not really succeeding. However some of the issues tackled in this show could have made some fictional philosophical discussion but the way it was handled ruins it. Also super power swords are not wanted.

Overall 2.5/5

This show really isn’t that great, its probally not worth wasting your time on since it will only make you rage. However if you can get past the awful voice script and voice acting then it could be something good for a sunday afternoon.
