Revisting A Classic – Marvel vs Capcom 2

nobody | 20 Aug 2009

Almost all fans of arcade fighters have at some point played Marvel vs Capcom 2, or atleast heard of, over nearly a decade of it being in existence. I, myself, have been playing it on the old school machines since elementary school. So, suffice to say Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is probably one of my fave 2d fighters of all time. During its lifetime, the game moved over to consoles, starting from the Dreamcast and porting its way over to PS2 and XBOX. Now, its once again moved to the PS3 and X36, this time with revamped graphics and online play. I finally got a hold of it last week on the day it was released on PS3. (Crummy MS paid off Capcom to bump up their release a week earlier, grrr). So, first time playing it and it feels the same as it always did … apart from a redesign of the menus. I was a bit disappointed that all 52 characters were unlocked from the start. Originally, you would start with 20 and would have to purchase them from the ‘shop’ by accumulating points. The game itself looked better than ever. First off, the display had be extended from 4:3 to 16:9 and the sprites, while not considered ‘HD’, looked crisp and refreshed . Course you can always revert back to classic settings, but the sorta-pixilated retro look didn’t seem to appeal to me anymore.

After finishing arcade mode a couple times, jumped online to vs other people. Found a bunch on … except no one withing my region. So I had to settle for an American who had 250ish ping. Surprisingly, the lagg wasn’t noticeable. On occasion it would glitch a bit, but I had expected far worse. Too bad that damn american kept porjectile + assist spamming and eventually guard breaking me to a slow and lousy death. He later messages me saying “srry for acting PSSY, but i want to get the gold trophy” (-.-). Anyway, sick of Americans and their ideals, I moved to Jap and vs this guy who absolulely slaughtered/butched/massacred the living shit out of me and I had only managed to hit him ONCE, while he combo-ed my ass with magneto. *sigh* Lesson learnt, don’t play with Japs .. Despite the 0 – 2 loss, I am still keen on playing online, hopefully find an opponent who isn’t too good or isn’t cheap. So, here is the wrap …. It’s a classic. MvC2 remains a faithful port of the original, which you can’t complain. But maybe next time they port it, they should fix up the glitches and those infinite combos that seem to break the game. If you have no idea what I’m mean, I’ll leave you with this video. MvC2 Exploits

i don’t think sakura is even in this game.

well … you can always get a DC emulator (nullDC is a good one) and torrent the iso :) I have tried it and works perfectly.

and yes, sakura is in this game, plus she can turn into a dark hadou form (so she plays hybrid of the original and akuma) .

PS: Dante, how do I embed vids? D: I tried the embed code for both youtube and gametrailers .. but it doesn’t work.

To embed you need to put the HTML code into the “html” part not “design” (you’ll see the tabs when you make a post)…if its just HTML it’ll do the embedding fine

i copy and paste this into the html section …

and after clicking update post … it disappears :\

Perhaps my site permissions won’t allow me to embed, I even tried the embed tool but results are the same after i click update post.
