Candy Boy

Dante | 27 Nov 2009

So yea, I was watching Candy Boy in between my other anime…altogether there’s apparently 8 episodes…but I just reached ep 7 and there seems to be no end in sight…I would wager ep 8 is like K-ON ep 13…a complete waste of time.

I’ll still get it though ;3 Just not yet.

So…Candy Boy:

It has nothing to do with Candy nor does it feature any male actors…at all…

Basically its one of those: “follow the life of…” anime…which I adore so much. This time we follow the lives of Kanade (Kana) and Yukino (Yuki)…the Sakurai twins. Unlike most anime I tend to watch, this one was a romantic comedy and was choc full of b’awwwww moments.

As it stands, Kana is the oldest of 3 sisters with obviously Yuki being one of them, theres also the little loli sister Shizuku (Shi) who struggles to come to terms with Kana and Yuki as they live away from home. Kana and Yuki have a very close relationship…like yuri-level close. They sleep together…walk everywhere holding hands…get all fuwa fuwa every time they look into each others eyes. As far as story goes, all they want to do is be together forever without any interruptions…but of course reality comes into effect, they are forced into different classes to study…Kana needs to take extra study courses but cannot afford to do so, however Yuki takes up part time employment to cover the fees…

So they are slowly driven apart throughout the story as they come to grips with reality…meanwhile Shi constantly has issues with the two twins as she simply wishes to be so desperately in love with her sisters as they are too each other…but she lives no where near them and is an only child in her household. Naturally conflict arises as Shi wants to be part of the love and form an odd triangle…which doesnt work.

Then theres Sakuya, the spoilt little rich girl who stalks Kanade yuri style…She desperately wants nothing more than to live with Kana and smecks her up…Kana somehow manages to ignore most of the urges and continues along with her trailing in her shadows.

So we follow the daily lives of Yuki and Kana as they struggle to live with each other while the world tears them apart…Kana acts the older Tsun sister while Yuki acts the Moe sister with Shi in there for Loli lovers. Its a fairly slow anime with much of the same stuff in every episode which makes it rather difficult to watch even though its only a total of 8 episodes…however it is an anime worth watching if you love subtle yuri or if you simply want to be happy again :3

Other than that theres not much else to say, its worth a watch if you like the usual “Daily life” anime like I do, but its not by any means an outstanding anime. I enjoyed it but I didnt love it.

6/10. Retains an above average grade because of a strong story that spans every episode without any need for fillers. Amusing romantic comedy but just no variation.
