Front Mission Devolution?
Fire | 13 Nov 2009In my awesome journey of internet lurkings, I came across a video of the new Front Mission and it’s fine for me to say “I AM NOT IMPRESSED”.
*This would be a video link but noooooo the blog is like, I HATE YOU, and refuses to post the video so it shall be inserted when dant00b goes around fixing it*
So from the video this definately isn’t traditional Front Mission gameplay (If you don’t know what it is, look it up but it was pretty much a TRPG, along the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics except with more customization).
Now it looks a bit of a cross between armored core and mechwarrior which in a sense would appeal to the casual audience unlike the old style which was a really deep customization game. So far from the trailers, it looks like there really isn’t much story yet so far, however Front Mission, while not as epic as the likes of final fantasy, has always had a great story, sometimes similar to Ace Combat. Honestly though, I don’t appreciate the new style this game. Mechwarrior felt like a sim while Armored Core was more of an arcade mech game. This is trying to get in between and that just doesn’t sit right with me so I’d give the gameplay a no for now until i see more of it. Right now it just doesn’t feel right.
The graphics don’t really look that great and the mech designs themselves seem to be extremely blocky which looks a bit unnatural considering the way they move. It does look good but the mech designs are a bit off putting for me. Personally, I prefer a more sleeker look so getting the game just for the mecha fan inside of me is kinda outside of the question.
So in the end, at the moment, I don’t think this game is worth it. It could be maybe later down the track but with the looks of the new Mechwarrior, I doubt this game can even match up to it. I’d rather this would cater to the TRPG niche.

Herp Derp…copy paste HTML embed code into HTML section et voila…embedded video…I swear Ill need to make a picture tutorial or something as I seem to be the only one that has figured it out…
except maybe affian..
Also bah Mechs…I think they’ve been done to death really…if you’re go nna make a mech game, do something new and innovative…instead of the usual one on one mech killing action which we’ve all seen before in one form or another.
Holy crap im writing this on an Eee PC that my brother owns cause my PC isnt set up yet…damn this shit is hard
i know, that’s what i do but it still doesn’t work :<
sometimes it just gives me a link sometimes it doesnt even how up T.T
anyways, mech games are fine. there really isn't that many mech games that they're done to death, its just that i think alot of them have really trivial plots so they really aren't that enjoyable. I loved the mechwarrior series and imo they're the epitome of what mech games should be ^^
